Scale
Main Ingredients:
- 2 lbs of chicken drumsticks
- 1/4 cup soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
- 1/4 cup honey or brown sugar
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- Optional: 1/4 cup BBQ sauce for a smoky finish
Optional Garnishes:
- Fresh parsley or cilantro, chopped
- Sesame seeds for a nutty crunch
Instructions
- Prepare the Chicken:
- Rinse and pat dry 2 lbs of chicken drumsticks.
- Tip: Removing excess moisture helps the sauce stick better.
- Make the Sauce:
- In a bowl, whisk together 1/4 cup soy sauce, 1/4 cup honey, 3 minced garlic cloves, 1 teaspoon smoked paprika, and 1/2 teaspoon black pepper.
- Optional: Add 1/4 cup BBQ sauce for a smoky, tangy twist.
- Combine Ingredients in the Slow Cooker:
- Place the drumsticks in the slow cooker and pour the sauce over them. Toss to coat evenly.
- Tip: Avoid overcrowding to ensure even cooking.
- Cook on Low or High:
- Cook on low for 6–7 hours or high for 3–4 hours.
- Tip: For best results, use a meat thermometer to ensure the chicken reaches 165°F (74°C).
- Optional Broil for Crispy Skin:
- Transfer the drumsticks to a baking sheet and broil on high for 5 minutes to caramelize the sauce.
- Serve and Garnish:
- Sprinkle with chopped parsley or sesame seeds for added flavor and a pop of color.
Notes
Dietary Adjustments
- Gluten-Free: Use tamari or coconut aminos instead of soy sauce.
- Low-Sugar: Substitute honey with a sugar-free alternative like stevia or monk fruit syrup.
- Spicy Version: Add 1/2 teaspoon cayenne or chili flakes for a bit of heat.
Ingredient Substitutions
- Chicken Thighs or Wings: Easily swap drumsticks for other cuts of chicken. Adjust cooking time accordingly.
- Alternative Sweeteners: Use maple syrup or agave nectar instead of honey for a different sweetness profile.
